Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has heaped praise upon Olivier Giroud and has revealed that the striker has shown the desire to improve this season in front of goal.

The Frenchman scored 17-goals in all competitions last season, but despite the impressive tally for his debut season in England, many people were questioning whether he was good enough to lead the line at the Emirates Stadium.

However, so far this seaso, Giroud has already scored four league goals in just six games and his team-mate has put it down to desire.

“He is always questioning himself,” said Sagna. “He knows what he did well and what he did wrong. He tries to work on it during training sessions and tries to communicate with the boss.

“He is a very good player, good physically in front of the goal and finishes well. We need to give him time and I think he will improve even more, and be more decisive.

“Even with his English, he improved a lot and that makes a big difference.”

Sagna was also joined by manager Arsene Wenger during the press conference and he agreed with what his right-back had to say about Giroud.

“I am never surprised by the improvement of the players, because that gives you the feeling that we are doing the right things, so I do not want to diminish that too much.

“For him, the jump from Montpellier to Arsenal was quite big. In the first season, it is always quite difficult.”
