Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has said that his competition with Alvaro Morata is a healthy one. During Chelsea’s win over Bournemouth yesterday, Morata was substituted in the 61st minute by Giroud. Giroud later set up Chelsea’s opening goal in the 72nd minute.

Giroud said, “The competition is healthy with Morata. Last year, I managed to win my place. There is no reason that this is not the case this year. The most important thing is to be decisive when you call on me, and I obviously hope to have more play time after the [international] break.”

Ever since joining Chelsea from Arsenal, Giroud has started only 6 games which raises questions about his future at the club. The Frenchman hinted that he would make a decision at the end of the season. Giroud said, “I still have one year of contract, plus possibly another year. The management of the club was rather favourable to give it to me. I do not know yet, we will do the accounts in April-May, but I do not exclude any possibility. We’ll see.”

Chelsea’s next match is against Cardiff City on September 15.
