Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has revealed that only Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney have his full effort during the derby which took place on Sunday.
The game eventually ended 4-1 to the hosts and the scoreline alone suggests how easy it was for Zabaleta and co., with Sergio Aguero stealing the show with an impressive brace.
Rooney’s form has been superb for United so far this season, which has come as a surprise to most after the summer of uncertainty regarding his future and his efforts on Sunday didn’t go un-noticed as Zabaleta praised the Englishman for his performance.
“I saw Rooney. He was one of their main players, he tried more than anyone else in the Manchester United team,” admitted Zabaleta
“He says Liverpool is still the big game. But I saw him working so hard, so probably it proves this game is just as important to him as United against Liverpool.
“When the game is like that, and you see the team playing like that against a team like Manchester United, you know it’s a special game.”
