Midfielder admits time was right to leave Stamford Bridge

New Southampton signing, Oriel Romeu, has admitted that the time was right to leave Chelsea in order to further his career.

The 23-year-old had been at the club for a few years, but was sent out on loan twice, one season in La Liga with Valencia, and the other in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart.

However, the Spaniard ended his Chelsea misery yesterday by completing a permanent move to Southampton in a deal worth £5million.

The defense-minded midfielder signed a three-year deal at St Mary’s Stadium and is now excited at the prospect of working under Ronald Koeman.

When speaking about the transfer, Romeu admitted that the time was right to leave Stamford Bridge so that he could further develop his career.

Right Time To Leave

Romeu said: “It’s very good to be a part of this club. I was looking for a good club and for something new in my career.

“After spending two years on loan, I needed something permanent and a club with a future – and I think I chose the right one.

“Southampton are doing the right things in the last few years and, once they came to me and asked me to come here, from the first day I was hoping to come.

“Now I just want to keep going and to keep developing as a player, and I’m looking forward to start playing as soon as possible.”
