Our lead is fake, says Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that his side’s lead at the top of the Premier League is a fake one due to rivals Manchester City having two games in hand over them.

The Blues are currently top of the table by four points, ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal, and they are currently six points ahead of Manuel Pellegrini’s men, but due to a game being postponed and their duties in other cups, City have now got two games in hand over the three teams above them.

If City were to pick up six points from those two games in hand, they will leap-frog from fourth place to first, and Mourinho knows that is why their lead is a ‘fake one’.

Mourinho said: “The gap to Man City is a fake advantage. If they win their [two] games in hand, they’re top.”

Due to Pellegrini’s men early goal-scoring spree at the Etihad Stadium, City’s goal difference is better than Chelsea’s by 12 goals, and that will be hard to reverse in the 10-games that Chelsea have left.
