Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in securing the services of Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann, after failing to sign a striker during the January transfer window.

French-born Griezmann has scored 19 goals in all competitions for Sociedad so far this season and has helped the San Sebastián club rise to sixth place in La Liga.

The 22-year-old forward has recently earned a call-up to the French national side for their upcoming friendly with the Netherlands and is currently La Liga’s third-highest goal scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Athletico Madrid’s Diego Costa.

Speaking to Telefoot TF1, Wenger confirmed that Arsenal were interested in signing the winger, and admitted the north London club have been “following Antoine Griezmann for a long time.”

Arsenal are seeking to bolster their strength in depth up front to relieve the burden on Olivier Giroud, who has been the club’s primary goal-scoring threat since injuries to Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey.

The Gunners’ only January signing, midfielder Kim Kallstrom who is on loan from Spartak Moscow, was found to have a back injury and has yet to feature for the Gunners.
