Tutto Mercato Web claims that out-of-favour Newcastle United defender, Achraf Lazaar is being pursued by Serie A clubs.

The 26-year-old was Rafael Benitez’s first signing as the Magpies boss but unfortunately, the move never paid off. Lazaar has not featured in a single Newcastle game for the senior squad this season and only 3 for the U23s.

His struggle for minutes have been ongoing since his debut season and the former Liverpool manager sent the left-back out on loan to Benevento for a season to gather confidence. Lazaar ended up making only six starts in the league.

Genoa and Frosinone have expressed interest in signing him this January with the Tyneside outfit looking to trade him. It’s claimed that the two Italian sides are looking at the option of adding him to please their new managers, Cesare Prandelli and Marco Baroni respectively.

Lazaar’s contract is set to run until the summer of 2021 but he is no longer in Benitez’s plans despite being the only backup at the left-back spot behind Paul Dummett.

Newcastle have undergone a shaky start to their 2018/19 season but Benitez has managed to keep the team clear of the relegation spots. United are 4 points ahead of the bottom three after their 0-1 away win against Huddersfield Town.
