Owen says as a defender you are “dead” if Hazard does this to you

According to former England striker Michael Owen, Eden Hazard is unplayable when he stands up to defenders

The Belgian impressed in the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid last night, helping his side qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League.

Owen says as a defender you are “dead” if Hazard stands you up because you have no chance of stopping him.

“You wouldn’t really associate Hazard with raw speed,” Owen told BT Sport last night.

“He’s not someone who is going to run away from someone in a race.

“But once he stands you up, you’ve literally got no chance.

“He’s in top gear wishing three strides and everyone else takes six or seven. You’re dead if he stands you up.”

“He’s brilliant, he’s just got attributes that very few players have got,” the ex-Liverpool striker said.

“He’s so short, with a low-centre of gravity. He can just stop a player and just a turn of pace gets him past them.

“He can go from no speed to full speed within a couple of strides. He’s got such a good touch, he’s got so much going for him.

“He’s a brilliant, brilliant player. He can use both feet, he makes runs.”
