On-loan Chelsea defender made a ‘throat-cutting’ gesture to opponent
Papy Djilobodji could be facing a lengthy ban after he was spotted making a ‘throat-cutting’ gesture towards an opponent.
The defender is currently on loan at Werder Bremen after agreeing to spend the remainder of the season there following a failed stint at Chelsea.
Djilobodji arrived at Stamford Bridge on Transfer Deadline Day in the summer, but made just one cameo appearance in a Capital One Cup tie.
In January, he was shipped out to Germany in order to spend the remainder of the season there, but he now could be in serious trouble with the German FA.
Throat Cutting Gesture
During a 1-1 draw with Mainz, the centre-back made the threatening gesture towards winger Pablo de Blasis, and the FA are already looking into the incident.
Bremen officials have already commented on the situation with the manager admitting Djilobodji does have a temper, and the club’s sporting director has confirmed he’ll have strong words with him.
The likely length of the ban will be three games.
