Pep Guardiola insists he would love to have Brahim Diaz for few more years at Manchester City but they don’t have any control over his future.

Diaz’s is one of City’s brightest academy prospects and has burst to the first team scene this season. The 19 year old is pretty highly regarded at the club and seems to be the next big thing in making.

But despite his talent, Pep Guardiola hasn’t been able to use him quite regularly this term as the gaffer already has many talented players with the likes of Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Sergio Aguero.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder the midfielder can play across the front three but he is yet to be tested on the big stage. Guardiola insists he wants to extend the player’s contract but he can’t stop him from leaving the club.

“It’s the same as Phil [Foden] and Sancho, the academy has to be proud. It is a signal we are working really well.

“We want him, we want to extend his contract four or five years – we will do absolutely everything, but it’s in his hands.

“My advice if he doesn’t want to stay he has to leave. It’s simple.

“We protect him – the same with Jadon, Phil – but he has to decide. It’s no more than that.”
