Portsmouth Football Club desperate for Liverpool to win the league

League Two strugglers Portsmouth would win a much-needed £1million if Liverpool were to win this year’s Premier League title due to a clause in Glen Johnson’s contract.

The English right-back left Pompey for Liverpool five years ago in a deal worth around £17.5million, and also in that deal was a clause in his contract stating that if The Reds were to win the league with him still there, his former-club would receive £1million.

In football terms, £1million isn’t really that much, but for Porstmouth Football Club, it’s a massive amount.

The once Premier League mid-table team is now four places above the relegation zone in England’s bottom league-tier and are seriously facing a drop to the non-league.

Since their demise, Portsmouth have twice been in administration, as well as facing a winding-up petition in the High Court, so the £1m from Johnson’s deal would do them the world of good.

Brendan Rodgers’ side know that if they win their remaining six games, they are guaranteed to win this year’s title, and it won’t be only the Liverpool fans praying that they can hold on, it will be the Pompey fans too.
