Premier League quotes of the season? Best Premier League quotes this season? Which Premier League quotes 2017/18 were the best this season?
From Ibrahimovic to Carragher, we’ve heard some excellent Premier League quotes 2017/18.
In a season that saw Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho heading up Manchester, Arsene Wenger’s future under constant doubt, and more footballers than ever using social media as their mouthpiece, there were plenty of good Premier League quotes to choose from.
Here, we run through the most memorable Premier League quotes 2017/18
“We are in the second year of trying to rebuild a football team that is not one of the best teams in the world. Manchester City buy full-backs for the price of strikers.”
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said this about Manchester City’s spending this season. A bit ironic considering he has spent around £260m on his team since he took over at Manchester United.
“Because I don’t behave as a clown on the touchline it means I lost my passion?’ ‘I prefer to do it the way I do it.”
Mourinho aiming a subtle dig at Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp for their sideline antics which started one of the biggest manager feuds in the last decade between Mourinho and Conte.
“I think that someone forget what they said in the past or which is his behaviours and sometimes I think there is, I don’t know the name, demenza senile, when you are a bit, when you forget what you do in the past.”
Conte’s response to Mourinho’s ‘clown’ comments calling Mourinho senile.
“I told you, lions don’t recover like humans. That I have now proved, rather than just saying it. I am just thankful I am able to run, do my things, do a little bit of ‘abracadabra’ magic – things that a lion does!”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic speaking about his return to football after sustaining a major knee injury in April only to return in October (much faster return than expected).
“Yesterday my dream died. After the euphoria of last season and being crowned Premier League champions all I dreamt of was staying with Leicester City, the club I love, for always. Sadly this was not to be.”
Former Leicester City manager who won the Premier league title miraculously in the 2015/16 season speaking after his shock sacking a few months later.
“As a player you always wonder when this day will finally come. Today is that day. I’ve just melted. The club means everything to me. Thank you will never be enough to (the fans). They have supported me through thick and thin. They have sung my name through the good times and bad and have driven me on.”
John Terry speaking to the Stamford Bridge faithful after an 18 year career at Chelsea Football Club. An emotional day indeed for both Terry and Chelsea fans.
“I’m the best player in history, in the good moments and the bad ones. I respect everyone’s preferences, but I’ve never seen anyone better than me. I have always thought that. No footballer can do the things I can. There’s no player more complete than me. I play well with both feet, I’m quick, powerful, good with the head, I score goals, I make assists. There are guys who prefer Neymar or Messi. But I tell you: there’s no-one more complete than me.”
Okay so this isn’t technically a “Premier League quote” but felt this had to be included. Ronaldo speaking after his fifth Ballon d’Or. What else is there to be said about that quote?
“They won’t win 8-0, what a stupid question that is. 8-0? Well, no I don’t believe that”
Another one that isn’t technically a “Premier League quote” but this was too funny not to mention. Netherlands coach speaking about his side’s chances of losing 8-0 in a World Cup qualification game which would knock them out of a World Cup spot. The Dutch were behind second-place Sweden by three points and behind in goal difference by six. When asked what would happen if Sweden beat Luxembourg by eight goals or similar margin, which would make it impossible to qualify regardless of beating Sweden. Unfortunately that’s exactly what happened. Embarrassing.
“It is an intolerable football shame, an indelible stain.”
Another one not technically Premier League but this was a big moment in the 2017/18 season. Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport responds to Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958.
“I was telling Redmond how good he is. Southampton have some super-talented players and last season Redmond scored a superb one-on-one against us, he destroyed us, but here Southampton did not want to play. They were time wasting from the ninth minute. I just wanted them to play.”
Pep Guardiola explaining why he was shouting at Southampton winger Nathan Redmond after the match.
