PSG are in advanced talks with Chelsea over a £40million deal for Portuguese defender David Luiz.
Luiz joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2011 for £21.5million, and has made 141 appearences for the club, mainly as a centre-back, but sometimes venturing out to defensive midfield. He still has 3 years left on his current Chelsea contract, and has been often the interest of Spanish club Barcelona over the last couple of seasons, but the French champions are now set to break their transfer record in order to land him, despite recently being found guilty of breaking financial fair play rules
Luiz is reportedly not part of Jose Mourinho’s first choice centre-back pairing, and profit generated from his sale would allow the Chelsea manager to be able to strengthen in other areas. Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, so Luiz’s exit could help fund that move.
