Paris Saint-Germain’s clash against Basaksehir was suspended.
Basaksehir striker Demba Ba told off the fourth official due to a racist remark he made. The entire Basaksehir team walked off the pitch. Basaksehir refused to come back on the pitch until the matter was resolved. Due to that reason, Basaksehir assistant manager Pierre Webo was sent off the field.
“You never say this white guy… so why when you mention a black guy, you have to say this black guy,” Ba could be heard saying.
Basaksehir’s official Twitter account tweeted soon after the incident: “NO TO RACISM”
PSG also re-tweeted the message from Basaksehir after posting: “After a red card is given by the referee to a member of opposition staff, discussions continue between players and staff of both teams with the referee.”
“The Basaksehir players decide to go back to the locker room, the Parisians follow them.”
UEFA then confirmed that the match would be rescheduled to Wednesday.
“After discussion with both clubs – decided on an exceptional basis to have remaining minutes of match played tomorrow with a new team of match officials.
“Kick-off set at 18:55 CET. A thorough investigation on the incident that took place will be opened immediately.”
