Manchester United have rejected claims that Colombian striker Radamel Falcao lied about his age when he joined the Red Devils just before the closure of the summer transfer window.

The former Atletico Madrid forward is officially 28, but The Sun reported that they had proof according to a particular documentation that he is, in fact, born on the 10th of February, which would make him 30 years of age.

However, a United spokesman told the Daily Mail that the claim was false, and reassured that the player’s age is indeed 28. ‘We were aware of the rumours but it was never an issue for us,’ the spokesman added.

The issue is crucial as United have the option to sign the Colombian on a permanent basis from Monaco after already spending £6 million on the loan deal and funding the player’s £280,000 per week wages, but would have to pay French side a fee of £46 million to keep the player in the Premier League beyond this season.

Falcao dismissed similar claims surrounding his age last year as ‘ridiculous’ and United have said that they were satisfied with the striker’s documentation after assessing it previous to the loan deal being completed.
