Rafael Benitez makes cheeky dig at Chelsea

Former-Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez has taken a cheeky swipe at his former-club and also at Jose Mourinho as he reveals his shock at them selling Juan Mata to Manchester United.

The now-Napoli boss is back in the UK as his side prepare to face Swansea City in the Europa League, and despite refusing to comment on Chelsea when asked about them, he did make a cheeky passing comment on the Mata transfer situation.

Despite being player of the year for The Blues the last two season, once Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge, it was clear that Mata wasn’t going to be a first-team regular as Mourinho prefered Oscar and Eden Hazard, and in January he decided to sell the Spaniard to rivals Manchester United.

When asked about his former-club, Rafa had this to say: ‘I am not here to talk about Chelsea, but Juan was their best player in the last two years. That is it. You can see that, but I am not here to analyse what they did.’

Benitez is not deemed a popular figure around Chelsea, despite hm guiding them to Europa League success during his interim-manager period last season.
