Parry believes star could walk

Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has claimed that striker Raheem Sterling may well force a move away from the club if he wants to.

Sterling, 20, has been the subject of speculation surrounding his future for some time, with rival clubs both in England and abroad interested.

Manchester United appear favourites to sign the forward, and if he does move to Old Trafford, he would be the first Liverpool player to move to their deadly rivals for 77 years.

However, other clubs are also keen, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Sterling’s agent has claimed that the player will not be signing a new deal at Anfield.

And Parry claimed that Sterling would happily walk away, should he desire to.

Parry Fears Walk Out

“I don’t know how strong a position the club will take,” he told talkSPORT.

“They are holding a few aces.

“What Raheem should have done is knuckle down and sign his new contract.

“He’s got plenty of football ahead of him.

“I think the best place for him would be Liverpool and the best manager would be Brendan Rodgers, given the support they’ve given him and his development.

“But, equally so, he’s done it once. They took him from QPR and it’s going to happen again.

“So in some ways what do people expect?”

Sterling was booed by a section of Reds fans at the club’s end-of-season awards ceremony, which may well hasten his exit.
