Allardyce was sacked as England boss after scandal

Sam Allardyce told his agent to ‘just sort it lad’ after he was told of the undercover journalist sting that in the end cost him his England dream job.

Allardyce was sacked just 67 days into his England reign after his agent, Scott McGaryvey, introduced him to a team of undercover journalists out to get him in trouble.

Allardyce thought he was negotiating with a group representing a Far East firm that was hoping to profit from the Premier League’s billion-pound transfer market.

The meeting was set up to discuss a bogus ÂŁ400,000 public speaking contract, but also saw Allardyce offering how to get round strict FA rules on third party ownership on players.

Allardyce’s words subsequently meant that he left his role as England boss after just 67 days in his dream job.

Now McGarvey has revealed that he spoke to Allardyce the day before the investigation went public, leaving 61-year-old Allardyce to say: “Just sort it lad”.

“I spoke to Sam on the Monday [the day before publication] when we’d found out it was a big con,” reveals McGarvey, speaking to Sky Sports. “I’d found out on Sunday evening and I’d phoned my lawyers.

“I came into the lawyers in the morning and Sam called me at about 10:30am and he just said, ‘Scotty, it’s a stitch up, you’ve been had over’. Not him, me!

“And I said: ‘I know, I’m in the lawyers.’ And he said, ‘Just sort it, lad.'”

McGarvey, a former football who had a career at Manchester United, also spoke of his devastation for Sam following the scandal,

He told The Times : “It kills me. It’s the worst feeling in the world. I’ve got my own situation, but the real travesty is Sam.

“If he had lost his job at Crewe Alexandra, I would be gutted for him. But he’s lost his job as England manager, the job he built himself up for. For Sam to lose that job, because of this, honestly, it kills me. Kills me.”
