Reports earlier in the week had suggested the winger had rejected a new contract of £70,000 a week at Anfield.

But Liverpool are keen to get Sterling to commit his future to the club, with Real Madrid thought to be keen to bring in the 20 year-old.

And manager Brenden Rodgers is confident the matter will be solved soon: “I think if you look at his performance that will do the talking.

“He is very happy at the club, he likes being where he has been given an opportunity to develop. There has been no unhappiness and it is between the club and his representatives to sort out a deal. I am sure that will get sorted out in time.”
