Rodgers fears injuries may stall Sturridge’s career

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that recent injuries to Daniel Sturridge may hault the strikers development.

Sturridge is currently injured, and is not expected back anytime soon either, with mid-November the earliest possible return to action for the Anfield club.

The striker signed from Chelsea in January 2013 for a ÂŁ12 million transfer fee, with the forward netting 21 Premier League goals for the Reds last season.

In his absence, Liverpool have turned to ÂŁ16 million summer signing Mario Balotelli, who has failed to score for the club so far, following his arrival from AC Milan.

And Rodgers believes that Sturridge’s career could be ruined due to persistant injuries.

“He [Sturridge] won’t become a top European striker until he plays consistently,” said Rodgers.

“It doesn’t matter about potential. You have to play. When Daniel comes back into the team, you will see the confidence because of the movement and the dynamic.

“But he isn’t fit and he hasn’t been for a long time. We just have to work without him and, while we are doing that stay up and around the top end of the table.”
