Rodgers takes dig at Mourinho

Brendan Rodgers has labelled the ‘mind games’ of the Premier League title race ‘stupid’. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has recently compared his side to a ‘small horse’, a bizarre metaphor to try and play down Chelsea’s title chances. Liverpool boss Rodgers responded by branding his team as ‘chihuaua’ running against the thoroughbreds in the race for top spot.

But Rodgers decided to use his Friday pre-match press conference to put a stop to the references.

“It is getting stupid now, isn’t it?” he said, “it is probably for the benefit of the media, who make it more than it actually is. As a modern-day manager, there are so many elements you have to have to your profile at this level. It is more than just the coaching on the field, it is manager the welfare of the players, media, and the physchology of it all has always been the case.”

“That is always about dealing with the human nature of people and getting the best out of them while managing expectations.”

The Reds visit Arsenal on Sunday in the 5th round of the FA Cup, hoping to inflict the second defeat on The Gunners in the week after the 5-1 demolition at Anfield just a week ago.
