Ronaldo Largely Missed At Real Madrid

After 5 woeful losses in the La Liga and an embarrassing 0-3 thrashing by CSKA Moscow at their very own Santiago Bernabeu mid-week, Marcelo finally admitted to what every Real Madrid fan has been feeling since the start of the 2018/19 season – Ronaldo is being missed.

The Brazilian left-back was quoted, “It’s obvious that when the best player in the world isn’t in your team you’re going to miss him. But I don’t want to say that we don’t have the best players in the world in every position. Any team would like to have Cristiano with them, but Madrid will continue to be Madrid despite players coming and going.”

It seemed like the Galacticos had finally halted their steep descent under Santiago Solari but the mid-week Champions League fixture speaks otherwise. The team as a whole is struggling to get going on both ends of the pitch as they look to bridge a 5-point gap between them and La Liga leaders, Barcelona.

The reigning European champions have settled for Mariano Diaz as a replacement for the magnetic Cristiano Ronaldo and recent results might be the repercussions of such a decision. Other than bringing with him a stat sheet of over 40 goals every season, Ronaldo added a winning mentality into the team that his teammates could feed off of.

Paired with the managerial shift of David Loptegui, Madrid have found themselves in a difficult spot midway into the season. Solari has his work cut out for him to get the Los Blancos back into winning ways.
