England manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his disappointment regarding Arsenal forward Theo Walcott’s injury which will see him miss this Summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The England international suffered ligament damage in his knee and will now miss six months, and Hodgson has spoken out about the news for the first time this evening.

Hodgson, who will be planning on who to take to Brazil this Summer, revealed that he has spoken to Walcott about the injury and he has offered his sympathy, but he also believes the 24-year-old will return stronger than ever.

“I just wanted to express my disappointment to him. It is a blow for him personally of course, and for both Arsenal and England.

“We had quite a lengthy conversation and it is such a shame that we have lost a player of his calibre for the World Cup, he has been incredibly unfortunate and we wish him a speedy recovery.

“Having worked with him for two years as England manager I know the character he has, and I know he will come back even stronger from this setback.”
