Interim Manchester United manager Ryan Giggs is ready to show that his is the right man to take the club forward permanently.

The club legend will begin his short stint as boss against Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday night, and has already promised to drop any players not living up to the ‘United standard’.

But it is understood that Giggs wants to take the big job created by David Moyes’ dismissal this week on a permanent basis, and has urged his former team mates to give him four successive victories to make his case.

He said: ‘I have a chance to show what I can do, what I am capable of as a manager in a short space of time. It has been a frustrating season and I want to end it on a high.’

He appeared to have the full backing of former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who said: ‘He’s the one man they should have gone to. He’s got 20-odd years of experience at United. I signed him as a kid at 13.

‘He’s gone through all the gamut of  emotions at the club; he’s experienced all the highs and lows. He knows exactly what’s needed to be a United player.’

The appointment of the 40 year old is a sentimental one to the club, and Giggs yesterday vowed to bring fast paced, attacking football back to Old Trafford. As it stands, he has no chance of getting the job, with United chasing their no.1 choice Louis Van Gaal from Holland. However, Giggs has warned his players he will not tolerate faliure.
