30-day ban concludes but no further action has begun

Liverpool fans have been left fuming after defender Mamadou Sakho’s initial 30-day drug ban expired today- with NO date set for a disciplinary hearing as he looks set to be cleared of all charges.

Sakho was discovered to have used a fat burner that may have improved his performance in Liverpool’s away Europa League fixture at Manchester United on March 17th.

He was banned for an initial 30 days by UEFA in order for them to set up his hearing, meaning he missed both the Europa League semi-final against Villarreal and final against Sevilla.

But today that ban expired with no further action beginning to take place.

“A date has not been confirmed yet,” a spokesperson from the governing body told the Mail. “More information will follow as of next week.”

It’s a massive upset for Liverpool fans, as if he is cleared, he could’ve legally played in the Europa League final loss against Sevilla. However, he could now be in the line for a France call up for their home European Championships this summer.
