Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni said that his team deserved to go through to the Copa America Final following Argentina’s 2-0 defeat to Brazil in Belo Horizonte.
Messi and co.’s Copa America journey came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Brazil courtesy of goals from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino. La Albiceleste had some scoring opportunities but Brazil’s defense was sound. The closest Argentina came to scoring was when Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi hit the woodwork in either side of both halves.
Following the match, Scaloni thought that his team was the better one and deserved to play on Sunday’s summit clash at the Maracana. Scaloni said, “On merit, the team that should have gone to the final was Argentina. We were superior to Brazil. We showed that this group of players feel the shirt like nobody [else].
“We leave an image for the future of this national team and a very good way forward.”
When asked about his future with Argentina, Scaloni replied,”I don’t think it’s time to talk about it, because that’s the least of my worries right now. I want to be with my players and share this hard moment.”
Argentina next play the 3rd place playoff against the loser of tonight’s semi-final clash between reigning Champions Chile and Peru at Porto Alegre on Saturday at Sao Paulo.
