The Gunners are said to be leading the way in the race to sign Fabian Schar for £9.5 million.
The North London side have been interested in the Swiss defender for a few years and have decided to launch a bid in January.
Schar has also said he wants to leave Basel for a leading Premier League club, and with the defensive crisis at the Emirates Stadium, it looks like a move to Arsenal could be on the cards.
Arsene Wenger’s side are currently without Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny, but despite the latter returning to training today, Wenger’s side are very short for defensive options.
Spurs and Chelsea are also rumoured to be interested in the young defender
