Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer has stated that he is flattered after receiving interest from Liverpool.

The 26 year old fullback has impressed for Klopp’s Dortmund side this season, however the club maybe tempted to cash in on the player, due to the impact that Erik Durm has made in the same position.

The defender stated to German Media regarding the interest, and was quoted saying.

“Of course I look forward to hearing things like that and it’s nice when top clubs are interested in you,” he told WAZ.

“But I still have a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016 and I feel very, very good at BVB.”

Schmelzer has been recoving from a recent injury, though he will be fit for Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal German Cup Final in Berlin, against fierce rivals Bayern Munich.

The defender is also optimistic about his own World Cup place in the German National team heading to Brazil later this summer.

“I’m feeling good again. I have been in full training since Friday and I’ll be ready for the last home game against Hoffenheim next weekend.

“I don’t know whether I’ll play, only time will tell. I was out for five and a half weeks. We’ll see how this week goes. I’m looking forward to the last few games.

“The highlight will be Berlin and my first World Cup this summer. I hope to get back some rhythm from the games against Hoffenheim and Hertha.”
