Southampton raids are ‘getting ridiculous’

BT Sport commentator Michael Owen believes that the raids taking place on Southampton by bigger clubs is ‘getting ridiculous’.

Morgan Schneiderlein and Jay Rodriguez are the latest names to be linked with a move away from St. Marys, with Spurs reportedly preparing a combined ÂŁ50million bid for both.

Saints have already sold five of their star players this summer raising a total income of around ÂŁ100million.

Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren have all completed moves to Liverpool, Luke Shaw has made a big money transfer to Manchester United, and teenager Calum Chambers signed for Arsenal yesterday.

Former Liverpool striker Owen believes that it is becoming too much, using Twitter, he said,

“I thought if Southampton lost 1 player they would lose 3 or 4,” he said.

“This, however, is getting ridiculous! Have they got any players left?!!!

“On a serious note, Southampton have received top dollar and should be applauded.

“Time to invest wisely and continue to trust their academy.”
