TalkSPORT presenter slams Manchester United striker
Stan Collymore has questioned whether Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is showing he’s worth the £300k-a-week contract he’s on at Old Trafford.
The England international has come under severe scrutiny in recent weeks after failing to perform for Louis van Gaal‘s men so far this season, and Collymore has stuck the knife in during his radio show.
The TalkSPORT presented questioned whether it would be best for all parties if Rooney left Old Trafford and ended his career elsewhere.
Collymore Slams Rooney
“He is historically a great player,” Collymore said.
“But no player is bigger than Manchester United Football Club. No player’s inclusion in an England squad should hamper the progress of an in-form player.
“Manchester United have drawn four Premier League games this season. Wayne Rooney is paid to make the difference in those games. If he had, United would be five points clear at the top.
“It is the end of Rooney unless he leaves Manchester United. I think Sir Alex Ferguson possibly wanted to get rid of him, but knew he himself was leaving so left that political hot potato to someone else.”
The former-Liverpool star even asked the question ‘would Rooney be better off in a Jose Mourinho or Roberto Martinez side?’, hinting at a possible move to Chelsea or Everton.
