Steven Gerrard admits to ‘title flashes’

Steven Gerrard admits he has had ‘title flashes’ as Liverpool chase Premier League glory, but also knows they have little margin for error. The Reds have been at the top end of the table for most of the season.

Now, a first top flight crown in 24 is almost in their grasp but Gerrard has conceded that no-one can afford to get ‘carried away’. The Liverpool captain said: “I’m trying not to dare to believe.

“Don’t get me wrong, winning the title flashes in and out of my mind from time to time but I think with experience I have learned this can be a ruthless league and one bad performance or one bad error could lead to a draw or a defeat. We have to remain focused and just think about the next game. The message is that we have won nothing yet.

“We are in a title race. We can’t get away from that, we can’t deny that as it would just be stupid, but from experience I would never get carried away.”

Liverpool have seven games left to win the league, including games against Chelsea and Man City, who are also fighting for a league title victory. Gerrard added:

“We are in the situation now where we have got to win every game. It’s a cup final mentality, and we have seven to go. We have to go and try and win them all.”
