If LA Galaxy fall to Colorado this weekend, it could be the end of the midfielder’s career

Steven Gerrard could be set to retire from football this weekend if his LA Galaxy side don’t see off Colorado.

The midfielder has spent the last two seasons in the MLS after leaving Liverpool and his illustrious career could finally come to an end this weekend in America.

If his current side don’t beat Colorado, then they will be knocked out of the MLS Play-Off and their season would be over. With no new contract on the table at LA and with his current deal coming to an end once the current season is finished, it means that it could be the end for Gerrard.

A return to Liverpool in a playing role isn’t currently being reported and doesn’t seem likely to happen and no other MLS side or European side seem to be interested in offering the 36-year old a deal.

If Gerrard ends up without a club, he may decide that it is finally time to hang up his boot and put an end to what has been an amazing playing career for both club and country.

Istanbul

Although he never quite got his hands on a Premier League Winner’s medal, there is no questioning that he will go down in history as one of the greats. He dragged the Reds to an FA Cup final victory in 2006 against West Ham, in a game that many call the ‘Steven Gerrard Final.’

Of course, there is also that infamous night in Istanbul back in 2005 that will never be forgotten when Liverpool, 3-0 down at half-time, turned on the style and came back to win the Champions League for a fifth time.

Coaching Role

It’s possible though that Gerrard could return to Anfield in the near future in a coaching role, if that is the career path that he decides to go down. Although the Red’s are unlikely to bring him back in a playing capacity, he is a hero at Anfield and they could decide to bring him back as a coach if he does go down that path.

However, if his LA Galaxy side do manage to see off Colorado this weekend, then his career will go on, at least for the time being as the side will remain in the Play-Offs.

But, as previously mentioned, with his contract due to expire at the end of the current MLS season (around December 10, when the MLS Cup final is played), when that time does come, it could likely bring an end to his career.
