Antonio Conte is keen to bring in another defender to help strengthen the Blues backline
Chelsea are considering launching a bid to sign Jamaal Lascelles, according to reports.
The Newcastle man has impressed in the Championship so far this season, as his side have climbed to the top of the table and look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The 22-year old has been at St James’ Park since 2014 and since being handed the captaincy, he has flourished at the heart of Newcastle’s defence.
Defensively solid
In most of the club’s games so far this season, he has arguably been their star player and a figure of consistency in their backline.
It is these performances which have caught the eye of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who is now reportedly keen to bring the defender to Stamford Bridge.
The boss likes the sides that he manages to be defensively solid and he believes that adding Lascelles to his squad could help bolster the Blues backline even more and that he could prove to be a valuable addition.
With the club also believed to be willing to pay around £18m for his services, Newcastle may find it hard to turn down a bid for him if one does come in, especially considering they only originally paid £7m for his services as part of a deal which also saw Karl Darlow join the club.
