According to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is just as good as La Liga duo Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Reds striker scored four superb goals last night at Anfield during their 5-1 thrashing of Norwich City, and he even set up the fifth goal for Raheem Sterling late on.

Suarez’s impressive form against The Canaries continued as he hit his third hat-trick against the Norfolk-based club and last night was probably his best yet.

A volley from 40-yards, a free-kick, a powerful drive after taking it past defenders, and a neat-finish from inside the box completed the Suarez show and after the game, his team-mate and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was full of praise for the 27-year-old hitman.

Gerrard told the club’s official website: “I think he’s getting so close to the main two, Ronaldo and Messi. If he keeps going, I think he can catch them. His fourth goal was average and it was a 30-yard free-kick, so I think that sums his performance up.”

“You have seen a world-class performance, probably one of the best individual performances I’ve seen at Anfield – and I’ve been playing here a long time,” added Gerrard.

“Having worked with him every single day, it’s probably less of a surprise to me as it is to the supporters. I’ve been pushing his corner for a long time that he is up there with the best in the world.”
