Marc Andre Ter Stegen issued a rather emotional farewell during his final Borussia Monchengladbach fixture.

The German keeper broke down in tears, before Saturday’s 3-1 Bundesliga win against Mainz.

Ter Stegen, who is set to sign for Barcelona next week, with the higly rated keeper set to replace Victor Valdes at the Nou Camp in the summer.

The highly rated 22 year old will leave Monchengladbach after 18 years, having joined the club as a child.

Speaking to German Television, he stated.

“I’m going to miss the stadium, the fans, the club, many people who are in the club, and of course my friends,” Ter Stegen told reporters afterwards.

“It was a very emotional game for me and I was delighted with the fans’ support.”

I don’t want to steal the limelight,” he said. “I could say where I’m going whenever I want, but I always said I wanted to focus on the situation with Borussia.

“It was important to me that Borussia will be playing in Europe next week, and now we’ve done that.”
