There has been no contact from Arsenal on Bony

It seems that the rumours about Arsenal looking at Wilfried Bony as a possible summer signing are wide of the mark, or a bit premature at least. The Ivorian striker’s excellent debut season in the Premier League with Swansea City, has made him a potential transfer target, but his current club claim to have had no contact with Arsenal or any other club, a report in The Express reveals.

Maybe Arsene Wenger is deploying some of that famous French patience of his, or maybe he is just not that keen on the 25-year old. After all, despite outscoring Olivier Giroud in all competitions, they hit the same number of 16 goals in the league. There were rumours that the Swansea boss Garry Monk had slapped a £25 million price tag on his forward, while others claimed that Bony’s contract included a release clause of around £20 million, but Monk does not seem to think so, because he is very confident of keeping the star striker.

He said, “There have been lots of stories, but we’ve had absolutely zero contact from anyone about Wilf and the fact is that as a club, we don’t care anyway.

“We don’t want to lose Wilf. We want him to stay with us and for him to be part of our future and the fact is that he is under contract.

“He is our player so it will be down to us to decide whether he stays or not.

“There is always going to be speculation about someone who scored as many goals as Wilf did last season.

“It’s a part of football that when a player does well, he will be linked with other clubs.

“But Wilf is our player, so all the speculation doesn’t matter.”
