Arsenal and United are looking likely favourites for a loan move for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgium internationals availability will certainly warrant interest from both clubs who are struggling with injuries at the moment and a short term loan would certainly help the clubs.
Vermaelen moved from Arsenal to Barcelona last summer for an estimated fee of £15million pound but is yet to make his debut at the Nou Camp because of injury.
With the likes of Pique and Mathieu holding the back line for Barcelona, Vermaelen may struggle to get a place in the starting 11.
It is thought Barcelona still want to keep hold of the defender, mainly due to the transfer ban which means they cannot buy a replacement. The option to send him on loan may appeal to Luis Enrique though so he can work on his fitness and maybe get some playing time before returning back to Spain.
