Thomas Vermaelen quiet on future

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has remained quiet when asked about his future at the club.

Despite being the club-captain, the Belgium centre-back has been a substitute for most of the season due to the solid and impressive pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, which has blossomed ever since Arsenal’s 2-0 win in Germany over Bayern Munich last season.

Vermaelen did make a rare start at the weekend due to Koscielny having a knock, and despite the side winning 4-1, it is highly expected that the French centre-back will come back in for the captain tomorrow night.

It has been reported that David Moyes is keen on signing Vermaelen in order to replace outgoing Nemanja Vidic, but when asked about his future, the 28-year-old refused to talk about it.

“It makes no sense to talk about it now.

“I have learned to make no long-term plans, so I won’t say anything.”

Italian side Napoli and Spanish side FC Barcelona are also reportedly interested in the Belgium.
