Thomas Vermaelen ready to quit Arsenal

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is ready to quit the club in the Summer, according to his agent.

Alex Kroes has been quoted claiming that his client has told manager Arsene Wenger that he is ready to leave the club due to lack of first-team football.

Despite being the club-captain, Vermaelen has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium due to the impressive partnership growing between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and since then, first-team football has been limited for the 28-year-old.

‘Thomas has told Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal this summer.’ Kroes said.

However, Vermaelen’s agent then went on to dismiss all reports suggesting that a deal was already in place with Italian side Napoli, who declared their interest for the centre-back in January.

‘Are the stories true? What you’ve read in the newspapers and on the internet is unfounded,’ Kroes told UltimeCalcioNapoli.

‘Things that have been reported are not true, and I say this with full knowledge of the facts.

‘Some outlets are beginning to speculate, but that’s all it is – speculation.

‘Now is not the time to talk.’
