Wenger: “Arsenal are in better mental shape”

Wenger and his side are preparing for a giant clash against the current Champions League holders, Bayern Munich, and the Frenchman believes his side are better prepared mentally to face them, than this time last year.

Last season, Bayern progressed only on away goals following a 3-1 win at the Emirates but then held out to lose only 2-0 at the Allianz Arena. Arsenal had headed into the tie following a 1-0 loss against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, but this time round, they go into the tie second in the league and on the back of an FA Cup vicotry over Liverpool.

Wenger has been encouraged by his side’s impressive form and believs his side can produce an upset over the German giants on Wednesday.

“I think we are in a better mental shape than one year ago,” Wenger said. “We’d lost to Blackburn in the FA Cup, which was a big disappointment.

“This time we won against Liverpool and we’re determined to win the game (against Bayern). Since the start of the season we know we have to be 100 per cent. We believe we can do it but it’s down to the quality of our performance.”
