Toby Alderweireld has insisted he is fully focused on Tottenham Hotspur but refused to shade any light on his contract.
The Belgian international was very close in securing a move to Manchester United but the two clubs failed to agree on any deal as the Red Devils were not ready to meet Spurs’ valuation.
Toby is in the last year of his current contract and although the North London club does have the option to extend it for a further year it would also trigger a clause for which the player will be available for a mere £25m in the next summer.
The 29 year old is likely to remain at the club unless United come back with a better offer in the winter transfer window. The Belgian defender who recently became a father for the first time has admitted he is currently happy at the club.
“I’m the old Toby again. I try to do my best and help the team.
“How happy am I on a scale of one to 10? When you have a daughter it’s 10 out of 10. It doesn’t matter what happens. The joy that I get from that, I try to give it to my football.”
On being asked about his contractual situation the player answered, “Not that I can say, no. I’m focused on Spurs and trying to help the team. That’s all I can do.”
