The Los Colchoneros are another club that was too good but eventually got relegated, they were relegated with Betis who finished the season with 42 points and Sevilla down to the Segunda Division. Atletico finished the 1999/00 La Liga season with 38 points in the 38 season games only ten points above the very bottom club Sevilla and this saw them get relegated after having successful seasons in the near past as they had recently won their first La Liga title with a Copa Del Rey title.
