Torres happy to be home

In a recent press conference, Fernando Torres expressed his delight in re-joining his boyhood club, Atlético Madrid, on loan from his new parent club AC Milan, calling his move an ‘honour.’

Since leaving in a £20m transfer to Liverpool in 2007, a move he described as “best for both”, and going on to break the British transfer record when he moved to Chelsea for £50m, Torres has suffered a dip in form typified by his poor record of 1 goal in 10 games whilst on loan at AC Milan.

Now 30, Torres has decided to return to Los Rojiblancos, admitting that “there is a time when everyone must go back home.”

He said: “This has been a fantastic club over the last few years winning many trophies. There is a time when everyone must go back home.

“I was standing in the stands when I was a kid. I feel it is a privilege to have the chance to go back. I’m looking forward to enjoying playing and training again.

“I’m happy because I’ve said many, many times that I can’t hide where I come from. It’s an honour to be a part of Atletico Madrid.

“I made my dream come true when I played my first game for them at 17. I tried to go back to the first division but I couldn’t lead the team back to Europe and I left because we both understood it was best for both.”

Home is where he will stay until the end of the 15/16 season.
