Spurs Considering January Exit for Eric Dier, Out of Contract in 2024

Tottenham Hotspur is purportedly open to receiving offers for defender Eric Dier during the upcoming January transfer window. The 29-year-old’s contract is expected to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, offering the mid-season window the Spurs’ last opportunity to capitalize on his likely exit.

Despite Dier’s return to the bench in recent games, it has been noticed that he is not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the team. He was named to the squad for games against Arsenal and Sheffield United last month, but was left out completely in the recent win over Liverpool. Dier, who has been an integral part in the heart of Tottenham’s defense in recent seasons, has yet to play a single minute of football for the club this season.

Eric Dier chose to remain at the north London club despite receiving offers during the summer transfer window. With his contract coming to an end, he is now contemplating other options, including a reunion with former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho at Serie A giants Roma. Despite Dier’s initial plan to complete his contract and leave on a free transfer in 2024, this probable transfer has acquired traction.

Tottenham, who are unbeaten in the Premier League and have 17 points, sit second in the league table, only behind Manchester City, and are looking to strengthen their defensive options. Postecoglou is desperate to expand the squad further, particularly in the center defensive position, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven developing an effective defensive partnership.
