Cristian Romero joined Spurs on a year-long loan this summer.

The 23-year old defender had a dream start to the Premier League season featuring as a regular under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

The Argentine defender joined on a season-long loan from Atalanta with the option to make the deal permanent for ÂŁ46.75m.

Romero, unfortunately, picked up a hamstring injury while being on international duty and will be out of action until January at the least.

Many have been speculating that Romero’s injury might have derailed his permanent move to the North London club but journalist Alasdair Gold confirmed that the move is imminent.

The journalist said on his YT channel: “That deal, although technically termed as an option to buy, it is as close you can get to an obligation. Without calling it an obligation.

“That’s what I’ve been told. The contracts have already been agreed.

“That’s why it was billed as a long-term deal, before it was announced as a loan. Spurs expect to take up that option.”
