United advised to chase Varane

Manchester United completed a pricey double transfer of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera despite Louis van Gaal offcially taking over proceedings at Old Trafford and United fans will feel their team could benefit from further transfers.

Ferdinand, who will become a free agent once his contract with United expires at the end of the month, looks set to join newly promoted QPR.

And with former defensive partner Nemanja Vidic looking set to join Inter, Ferdinand feels his side could benefit from the tranfer of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

When asked during a twitter Q&A which defender he would sign this summer, Rio replied: “Varane … Real Madrid won’t sell though.”

Varane is a known target for Chelsea as Mourinho tries to bolster his defence for another title push next season, but Real coach Carlo Ancelotti has made his ambitions to keep the Frenchman clear.

Varane has become a key player for a Real side which won the Champions League in May and has also featured for France at the World Cup so ‘Los Blancos’ will be keen to keep the highly sought after youngster.

United could use defensive strengthening following the impending departure of their two veteran defenders and after finishing 7th last season, they will be hopeful of once again challenging for a top four place.
