Manchester United are on the verge of capturing Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen for £11m.
Various reports suggest that the player has agreed personal terms to join Manchester United, with only a transfer fee needing to be agreed to finalise any deal.
Vermaelen has fallen out of favour to Koscielney and Mertesacker at Arsenal and has admitted that it is time for him to move on to enable his career to carry on.
Van Gaal has kept tabs on Vermaelen for some-time now and is ready to bring the player to Old Trafford to fill in the gaps left by Vidic and Ferdinand.
And with Vermaelen having just a year left on his contract, the move looks to be a perfect fit for both clubs.
It is thought United will pay between £10-11m to the Gunners as they attempt to make their second defensive recruit to the squad.
