Victor Valdes move to Liverpool set to collapse

Liverpool’s chances of signing goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer have taken a hit after the Spaniard refused to undergo a four-day trial at the club.

The 32-year-old left his long-term team of FC Barcelona in the Summer in order to pursue a new career and challenge elsewhere, but due to a serious knee injury sustained earlier in the year, a move over the Summer couldn’t take place.

Despite AS Monaco being interested, the move fell through leaving Liverpool in pole position to land the veteran.

With numerous reports suggesting medical tests have taken place and a deal set to be agreed, it seemed that Brendan Rodgers had signed a new goalkeeper to provide serious competition for Simon Mignolet.

However, it now looks like the deal is off after the Spaniard refused to take part in a trial at the club.

Rodgers offered Valdes the chance to train with the club on a four-day trial, but the ‘keeper was not keen on the idea and it now appears any potential move is off the cards.
