Southampton midfielder confirms Arsene Wenger’s interest
Southampton star Victor Wanyama has confirmed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has got in touch with him regarding a potential move to the Emirates Stadium over the Summer.
The Kenyan international has been a rock for Ronald Koeman’s men in the centre of midfield alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, but both of them could be set for Summer exits at the end of the season.
Schneiderlin is wanted by Chelsea as well as Arsenal, whilst Wanyama has now revealed that Wenger has got in touch with him to suggest a possible transfer.
Wenger was interested in the midfielder back in his Celtic days, but he eventually joined Southampton in a deal worth £12million, but according to the player himself, Wenger is still interested.
Wanyama Confirms Interest
‘Wenger has been talking about me,’ he told the Sun.
‘He has let it be known he would like to sign me this summer.
‘Arsenal are a great club and I’d love to play Champions League football as I loved being on that stage with Celtic.
‘But we’ve had a fantastic season at Saints and I want to stay focused on helping the club qualify for Europe.
‘Then we’ll see where I end up in the summer.’
It’s believed Southampton would want around £20m for the powerhouse midfielder.
