Wayne Rooney Eyeing Coaching Role After Retirement

Wayne Rooney has insisted he wants to follow the footsteps of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard after hanging up his boots as he is eyeing a career in football management.

The former Manchester United forward who recently played his last match for England is currently plying his trade with DC United in the MLS. Rooney ended his long 13 year association with United in 2017 and went on to rejoin his boyhood club Everton from where he started his football career.

But the 33 year old looked to be a shadow of the fiery goal poacher once he used to be as he struggled to hit the ground at the Goodison Park. His reunion with the Toffees short lived as he left the club in a search of more regular game time.

On being asked if he is ready to devote himself to managerial role he replied, “Yeah, it is something I am passionate about and I want to do.

“Obviously, I need to complete my badges, which I am doing over in the States. Hopefully, by the time I come back to England, I will have them completed and be in a position to accept or reject any offers I get.

“There is always time. You have got time to do TV, if that is the way you want to go. I think everyone is different. I would prefer to give coaching or management a go.

“If it doesn’t work out then I am sure there would be opportunities to do TV and whatever feels right for you.”
